What is this blog about?

Greenspace with Grace is a program The Orion School is launching to augment our students' hands on curriculum with more time spent outdoors in interactions with nature.  Our Greenspace with Grace outdoor curriculum will include an outdoor classroom with an organic garden where the students will grown fruits, veggies, edamame, herbs, garlic... We will supply a percentage of our healthy morning snack from our garden.  We set up a small student-led farmer's market from which our parents can purchase the fruits of our labor (pun intended) which will supply the capital we will use to maintain the garden.  One of our goals is that the outdoor classroom become self-sustaining.  Other components of our project include an expansion of our current butterfly garden and composting efforts, as well as the addition of a solar-powered pond, bird sanctuary, orchard and vineyard.  We will also include a worm farm for study, a bat house and a backyard poultry area.

Our project requires the support from our community as it will be an educational process for all of our students.  We have established strategic partnerships with local organizations that focus on one or more facets of our project, environmental education, farm-to-school gardening, vermin-culture, nutrition education, animal care and nutrition.
